Core Values in Business

Core Values that Guide your Behaviour in Business..

One of the key driving factors that dictate our behaviour at work are your core values. Lets elaborate on some key core values shortlisted in this blog...

1. Responsibility: the core value Responsibility can be described as the act of holding yourself accountable for your path, words, actions, and tasks. It is the mere action of an individual to deliver with accountability for the work they are performing, the behaviour they are enacting, the words they are saying out, that one stands by.

Hence, the core value responsibility can also be suggested in a way that an individual does not blame or hold another individual accountable for the result of their work or actions.

Here is an example of the value 'responsibility': when person 'A' promises person 'B', that they will help them with a certain task, then it becomes 'A's" responsibility to help 'B' with the task at the given time, or inform them before hand if they are unable to. Whether 'A' fulfils their promise or not, it is however; their responsibility to inform 'B' with any changes that may have occurred, to cause minimum problem/ risk, if they cannot do as they said.

2. Integrity:
Possession of integrity demonstrates sound moral and ethical principles and doing the right thing, no matter who is watching. Integrity is the foundation on which coworkers build relationships and trust, and it is one of the fundamental values that employers seek in the employees that they hire.

To have integrity means that a person is self-aware, accountable, responsible, and truthful and that their actions are internally consistent

Integrity in business, like in any other professional aspect, it is quite essential. Some of the ways integrity can be achieved are:

Being Honest: As a business, one has an obligation to not only tell the truth at every turn but to also not hold back information that could be considered useful to employees and customers or simply harm the process.
Treating Equally: Everyone gets equal treatment regardless of how much they may contribute to your bottom line, being impartial can lead to ultimate success while avoiding chaos and conflicts.
Commitment: Practically any product or service can fail to provide customer with their needs. The point is if the business gets back to that products and services work correctly to make sure they solve an issue, and add value or simply stay empathetic towards their customer.

3. Respect:
For a healthy work environment, the key requirement is to be respectful of others. This will not only help maintain work efficiency but also increases productivity. Being respectful promotes a positive work culture especially in a diverse environment.

To be respectful means to treat others the way you would want to be treated. This will make the coworkers feel that they are valued for their ideas and their roles in the company. It will also strengthen the work relations thereby fostering success for the organisation.

Respect can be determined via verbal and non-verbal communication. The non-verbal cues are the person's tone of voice, listening, and asking for opinions.

One can show respect by treating others with kindness and courtesy. Active listening is also important. Thus, a highly respectful workplace boost company's reputation.
